Copeland Whistles

Copeland Whistles

Hello, I am in central Ohio and am trying to find the best place to list some equipment for sale. I have a rare set of Copeland sterling silver whistles (Lo D and Hi D) which have never been played. I also have some new Michael Burke whistles, a Giulietti piano accordion and a new Albert Alfonson bodhran. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I was trying to avoid eBay.

Re: Copeland Whistles

Dang, inever heard of copeland=)
Sounds like he made good whistles, but i don’t like to buy more whistles without playing them before. Have already a bunch laying around

Re: Copeland Whistles

The Chiff and Fipple forums have a vibrant market place in whistles, so it’s worth researching there for a reasonable price to ask and then list them there -

You might also get interest on the other instruments there although there’s probably better places to sell a piano box

Re: Copeland Whistles

Great, thank you for the suggestions.

Re: Copeland Whistles

Ebay is great for selling IMHO.

Especially for things that the seller doesn’t exactly know the value of.

Just this week somebody put up something for around $50, but when bidding closed it sold for over $600. A group of informed watchers were a bit surprised it went that high, but we have seen that item sell in the $300-$400 range on a number of occasions. The seller thought it was only worth $50, but buyers on Ebay prevented the item for selling too low.

Experts who know what they want, know what to look for, and know what things ordinarily sell for prevent valuable items for selling less than they’re worth.

So somebody might tell you that a certain whistle is worth $500 but it might be worth far more to a buyer out there somewhere. All you need is two somebodies who want that whistle for the bidding to spiral higher and higher.

Selling something for a fixed price prevents your item for selling for more than you think it’s worth.

Re: Copeland Whistles

A pair of sterling silver Copland low/hi D’s in “never played” condition are very valuable. Perhaps even moreso as a set than individually. If you’d prefer not to EBay… selling on consignment at Irish Flute Store is likely to get you a fair price for these and low hassle.

The Burke’s are desirable but aren’t rare and are available ex-stock new from maker ($270-370 depending on key). Expect you’ll get 70%+/-10 of new price.

Re: Copeland Whistles

Yea, i agree that Ebay is a good way of getting ripped down to a reserve price, because AFAIK people aren’t haunting it looking for whistles.

Re: Copeland Whistles

I would be interested in hearing prices for the Copeland’s if you’d like to send me a message.

I know that Copeland also made nickel whistles, are you certain that the high and low D whistles are sterling?
