What are the heaviest strings you would put on a 1927 Paramount Style A?

What are the heaviest strings you would put on a 1927 Paramount Style A?

I want to try out heavier strings after playing and am wondering how heavy can I go? Would 40 or 42 be too heavy for the G string? 13 or so too heavy for the E string? Thank you.

the best i can tell, this question is about banjo strings, gdae tuning.

If you wanted your tension to be even across the strings, you would need heavier than .042“ on the G, but the problem with that is that the G strings start to feel out of place when they get that big. For the Paramounts that I have had, I generally used .011”, .018“ (wound string), .028”, .042“. A lot of people use .012”, .020“, .030”, .042“ (or maybe .044”). With a vintage instrument like that, without a truss rod, the heavier the strings, the more tension you’re subjecting the neck to, and the more likely you are to warp the neck over time… But most of the choice is really just personal preference…

I use the same gauges as Reverend, huh. Committed it to memory. Never had a warped neck on any of my banjos.
