Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

He played Overton’s when I saw Flook a couple of years ago.

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

I omitted to say the Overtons were made by Colin Goldie. The whole story about these whistles ie Bernard Overton vs Colin Goldie is not for me to tell, although I am sure there is someone out there willing to write it down.

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

Yes I saw Flook in Broadstairs this year and it looked like Brian was playing an Overton to me

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

Brian does play colin goldie whistles… and they are really excellent, super!!!
He mentioned that especially at the dranouter festival, last summer!
I bought already a few: soprano D, A, alt G and F.
Some are tuneable and the A is a blue one :-)
They really play so easy, very nice tone, beautifully made …
Colin is a very gentle musician and builder… loves every peace he makes!
Don’t doubt!!! Just contact him… you won’t regret it!!!http://www.overton.de/texte/csghomeuk.html

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

i know bri is technichly superb, but does anyone agree with me in that ,he plays overt complicated tunes and only shows off the overton and not the tune??????

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

for the record …

no ref is made to the whistles on ‘live!’ (1997), but the flutes are included

and colin goldie overton whistles are listed on ‘flatfish’ (1999) for brian

Re: Brian Finnigan whistle??

but do u think he[bri fin] is in him self? from a whistling point of view? what is wrong with mary bergin? old tunes are best….. keep trad alive. and if u cant right a tune thats not simple, u aint got it. simplicity is genius……………………………….
