Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

Nice one Laura.

Great to hear there’s a weekend in memory of such a flute legend as John Mc Kenna! Great Sligo / Leitrim style of playing that has influenced probably a couple or even perhaps even three generations of musicians at this stage, thanks to his 78 recordings in America in the 1920’s & 30’s, around the same era as Michael Coleman and James Morrison. He was certainly a big influence on me from when I was about 10 years old in Sligo with my Da one year and Liam Kelly from Sligo gave me a cassette of the old 78 recordings of John Mc Kenna saying: "I’m giving you this as long as you learn all the tunes!" which was a really nice treat then, when we didn’t have stossy CD players and what-not!

Hope the music weekend goes great!

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

meant "stossy", not ‘stossy’ - what in the under-of-God is stossy? :|

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

it did it again… I was trying to say "s-w-a-n-k-y" - I get it now, there must be some anti-swear coder on this site….

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

"s-w-a-n-k-y"

adj : imposingly fashionable and elegant; "a s-w-a-n-k apartment"

^^^ See, not a swear word you stupid anti-curse bot! ^^^

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

Hey that’s cool!

Did you see that great film with yer woman, Hilary Stoss?

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

Toss and the other word mean the same thing,
so why is one "bad" and the other not?

"LETS BE tossING YOU…."

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

You know of course we’ll get into trouble over this,
and earlier Zina was talking about juggling two balls in her hand, and Will was sessions was about getting good head…..but will anything be said to them ?

It’s an anti-Irish thing you know.

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

*smirk* it’s cuz we’re specialer than you, BegF.

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

See we don’t know if *smirk* is actually what you’ve wrtitten.

You could possible have written "F*** You BegF and the horse you rode in on"
and the censor machine translates it to *smirk*.

I always knew you were the devil woman !

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

LOL - I think you can pretty much count on the *smirk*.

Re: John Mc Kenna Trad Music Weekend

see what you started there Murrough! Although, i have never heard of the word stossy in my life, and didnt realise s-w-a-n-k-y was a curse word.
My da gave my bro the same cassette of the legend mc kenna. Our first ever proper trad album. Needless to say, it was well played!! Turned out the weekend was great, a lot of tunes played and a lot of drink taken.
