Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

Ah well, at least now I know I can’t get a ‘smiley’ on a title!

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

That’s a very sweet thought Dick. I’ll just go and look at the card now.

Hey Gords, I see you are a fan of Mick Moloney!

A few years back, we were at our weekly ballad session for the tourists up here in North Antrim, when a mini bus load of American tourists walked in, & we promptly nodded at each other thinking, oh oh, here we go again.

However, in their midst I spotted the bold Mick, who it transpired had organised this particular tour.
Anyway none of the other guys knew who he was & for the craic I said nothing & just waited to see what would happen.

Well, before long, Mick came over & said ‘he played a bit’ & could he bring his guitar in & join us.
So he returned & sat himself down, as luck would have it, beside our banjo player Pat, who had only been playing himself for about a year.
Anyway Pat, thinking to make Mick feel welcome proceeded to ask him if he had been playing long? ………………..!

We still pull his leg about that one.

Mick turned out to be a great bloke & we had a lovely session with him.

Wow, great story.

I am indeed a big fan of the good doctor’s playing. I’m not sure if he’s ever made a great album - perhaps if he’d have stuck around with Donal Lunny or Paul Brady he’d have done some better stuff. That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone come close to his banjo and mandolin playing. Simply the best!

Brilliant Dick, thanks for the early morning laugh!

Peace,

Thanks, Dick. Looks great. For some reason I didn’t get any sound though….

As an Okie replying to the card I will say: Merry Christmas from my neighborhood!

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

What a pity kris, especially if you are a big fan of Country Music &/or the classic - “White Christmas”!

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

dmarie, as an Okie, are you actually from the so-called ‘Bible Belt’?

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

I saw that this morning. Pretty damn funny.

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

The actual Bible Belt is more north of us, more mid-central US (we’re south-central) but the belly it buckles extends ’way south. In this town of around 45,000 there are 197 churches. 48 of them are Baptist. 2 are Catholic. I don’t know if you know the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”, but during the Christmas season one year a quick-shop clerk was actually sobbing because “it was so sad”….needless to say, there are far more attending the “Winter-National” car races than there are attending the symphony’s performance of the Messiah🙂

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

dmarie - in my hometown of 7,000 people (south Texas) we have over 40 Baptist churches. So this Texan wishes you all a fond white trash Christmas - and is incredibly grateful for the Irish Christmas in America tour. . .

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

We tend to define Oklahoma as “the Buckle on the Bible Belt” , but maybe like the foot of the rainbow, it’s always somewhere else.

I only count churches when I’m trying to get to sleep. 😉

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

Hey Musicfan.

Wow, you got me beat. I attend one of the two Catholic churches here. This morning (at 4:30 am to be precise) we played a mariachi Mass for La Fiesta de Virgen de Guadalupe.
On the way home, still dark out, I saw an old SilverStream trailer all decked out with Christmas lights. Made me smile.

Re: Here’s a musical Christmas card to all at session.org 😀

Ah dmarie - the problem is that whenever someone gets divorced they and their half of the family go start a new church. . . it isn’t quite that bad. And I attend one of the two Methodist churches in town. I love trailers decked with Christmas lights, it’s so homey. . .
