Re: The Maid behind the bar told me last night

Watch out for the man of the house - he’s a teetotaller and an eavesdropper.

Re: The Maid behind the bar told me last night

But boy oh boy does he have a choice wife!

Re: The Maid behind the bar told me last night

The man of the house lives beyond the green mountain, correct? I told him to go to the devil and shake himself but he just started swinging on the gate and then took the tinker’s daughter to see the flowers of the burren.

^Sorry, got ahead of myself there!

Re: The Maid behind the bar told me last night

The tinker´s daughter´s name was Kitty, and after she´d seen the flowers of the burren, she decided to take a few rambles and headed off in the direction of the fair.
On the way, she got a clinking. She didn´t remember much about it and when her friends asked her to tell them about last night´s fun, she could only remember telling the bucks of oranmore "Touch me if you dare!"
It´s not clear if this was an invitation or a threat.

Re: The Maid behind the bar told me last night

Ah but I was the lucky one as I got her to lie over next to the wall. Then we went for a walk down by the laurel tree amid the green groves where the birds were sweetly singing the music in the glen.

We were in Fermoy at the time and the lasses were having sport with some lads of Laois who were mere boys out rambling for pleasure. It turned out they were sailor boys who were just heading out on the ocean as they were off to California on the next morning tide.

So I bid them farwell to Erin………………..
