2010 Skerries Trad Music weekend
The Skerries Traditional Music Weekend continues to go from strength to strength. Some changes are made each year to further develop the content and appeal. 2010 sees our 9th annual festival and we will continue to include some focus on Fingal tunes and musicians as in recent years. Workshops will include piano accompaniment for the first time this year and we will continue to offer banjo & singing workshops which started in 2009.
Once again, many of Ireland’s leading exponents of traditional music and dance will both teach and perform in local Skerries venues.
Some of the musicians and tutors in town this year:
Whistle: Mary Bergin, Pádraig Buckley & Michelle Foy,
Flute: Cathal McConnell & Troy Bannon,
Fiddle: Gerry O’Connor, Breda Keville & Danny MacDonald,
Concertina: Micheál O’Raghallaigh & Clare Keville,
Accordion: Colm Gannon & Ray Lawlor,
Uilleann Pipes: Mick O’Brien & Nollaig McCárthaigh,
Banjo: Alan Byrne,
Guitar: Paul MacDonald,
Piano Accompaniment: Gary O’Briain & Noreen Gavin,
Dancing: Mairéad Casey & Tony Ryan,
Singing: Niamh Parsons.
We are very grateful for continued sponsorship and support from Fingal County Council’s Community Cultural & Sports Department, The Arts Council and local businesses.
Further information on workshops, sessions, tutors, accommodation and entry forms will be available on the Skerries website in April.
