Linlithgow Folk Festival 2016

The 18th great festival in this historic town. Headline concert (Saturday) with "The Outside Track", Bluegrass concert (Friday), musical cruises on The Union Canal, outdoor stage, outdoor family ceilidh, sessions, Sunday Bluegrass Gospel session. Full programme on the website from mid-July.

Here now is the almost full programme for this year’s festival:

I say "almost full" as details of acts appearing on the Nora Devine (outdoor) stage are usually released later, so check back to the website in August: timetables for this are also displayed around the festival venues over festival weekend.

Re: Linlithgow Folk Festival 2016

I’ll try to get back this year although I’ll surely give the Thursday night concert a miss. :-P
Sessions seem more promising though… Where is The Linlithgow Tap? Is it new?

I can’t see any music organised for the canal this year other than the cruises. Suits me though as I can always do my own thing down there. ;-)

Re: Linlithgow Folk Festival 2016

BTW, I’m sure you’ll take the first comment with a pinch of salt… :-)

All the better festivals have a broad appeal and you do very well in this respect. Well worth a visit.

Re: Linlithgow Folk Festival 2016

The Linlithgow Tap is what used to be the "Footballers’ and Cricketers’ Arms" which I’m sure you’ll know from old. I believe it is where the former Linlithgow Folk Club used to meet. Its exact address is 111-113 High St.
I shall be making a point of going to the first-listed event on the Thursday evening! ;-)
And you’re right, no festival events scheduled at the Canal for Saturday or Sunday afternoon, though no doubt there will still be the regular (non-musical) barge trips and the tearoom will be open. The Newtongrange Folk Club hosted session on Sunday afternoon moved to Linlithgow Bowling Club a couple of years back after outgrowing the Canal tearoom!

Re: Linlithgow Folk Festival 2016

Thanks.

I can remember when it was actually The Footballers Bar and The Cricketers Lounge before they knocked it all into one big bar.

The folk club took place in a cosy wee room at the back of the bar and you brought your drink through. Great atmosphere but not a lot of room for attracting bigger named guests but the likes of The Macs, Battlefield Band, and many more played there in their earlier days.

I might still have a walk up to the canal if the weather’s nice. ;-)
