Handed Down “ Journey into Tradition “ Placing the Button Accordion in the Sliabh Luachra Context presented by Màire O Keeffe

Sliabh Luachra Music has been shaped by set dancing down through the years and as a result because of its volume and other strengths the Button Accordion became very popular here and produced some great players and styles . Guest presenter Màire O Keeffe will trace that journey ,charting the development of the instrument , melodeon and the Baldoni instruments which Kerry musicians in the USA loved to how C#D and BC players all fitted in to the Sliabh Luachra scene .We always look forward to December and a visit from Màire as her knowledge is unending and we also get to hear her play .
Special Guests include box players Eoghan O Sullivan of The Smokey Chimney recordings ,Padraig Moynihan Glenflesk , Haruaki Saito from Japan who has a large repertoire of Johnny O Leary tunes and 11 year old Michael Healy who is learning his trade sitting in sessions with the great Jimmy Doyle
