Slow Session Class at IAC
I’m happy to announce a Slow Session Class at the Irish Arts Center for the next three Mondays: 7/9, 7/16, 7/23. 6PM - 7:30.
A session (seisiún in Irish) is a gathering of musicians playing traditional tunes, often in a pub. Sessions are super fun, but they can be intimidating for the uninitiated.
I hope this class serves as an introduction to sessions: what to expect, playing together, session etiquette, putting together sets, what tunes to play - but mostly it will be a slow session - we will play tunes at a slower, comfortable tempo, about half the speed (or even slower) than a traditional pub session. If you only know a handful of tunes, this session is for you! We will play tunes you likely learned in class and other common tunes. It is open to all instruments.
Afterwards you are invited to the Landmark Tavern down the street to experience an actual pub session.
Location: The gallery of the Irish Arts Center 553 51st Street, near 11th Ave.
And The Landmark Tavern: 626 11th Avenue at 46th Street
Cost: $20 per class
Hope you can make it!
(I know this is short notice - and it’s summer, feel free to come to any class that fits your schedule.)
