World Fiddle Day Scartaglin Celebrates the 50 year anniversary of the release of the LP recording “ The Star Above the Garter “ by Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford

Join us in Scartaglin on the weekend of May 17 to May 19 as World Fiddle Day Scartaglin will celebrate the 50 year anniversary of one of the greatest Irish Traditional Recordings and possibly the finest fiddle duet recording ever made . There will be talks on Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford with guest fiddle players playing , Songs , Poetry and Literary discussion based on interpretation of the Artwork on the
Album sleeve . A special afternoon all fiddle recital and on Saturday night the annual World Fiddle Day Concert will take place honouring the recording “ The Star above the Garter “ with all fiddle players present taking part .

We wanted to give visitors to Scartaglin a taste of what they might have heard in the past if they happened to hear a session played by locals . The tunes selected for this recital were played by Ned Box and Fiddle , Dan Jeremiah O’Connor Fiddle both pupils of Pàdraig O Keeffe and Maurice O Keeffe Kiskeam on May 18 1995 . This is open to all fiddle players with guests Paudie O Connor and Mick Culloty , Màire O Keeffe
