New Zealand’s premiere Irish music event, Ceol Aneas (ke-ol an-ass) is one of Australasia’s major Irish music gatherings, attracting musicians and traditional Irish music lovers from around New Zealand and overseas.
Similar to the traditional Irish music summer schools in Ireland, the Ceol Aneas festival programme features a ceili dance on Saturday night, a highlight concert Sunday night at Nelson Centre for Musical Arts featuring all the tutors.
There are also numerous traditional Irish music ‘sessions’. There is no charge to enter session venues and sessions run on into the wee, small hours.
Our tutors for the music workshops this year includes:
Eileen O’Brien (fiddle)
Mary MacNamara (concertina/free reed)
Angela Usher (banjo/mandolin)
Declan Simpson (fiddle)
Dougal Adams (flute)
Pat Higgins (whistle)
