Belfast TradFest Summer School of Traditional Music

The Belfast TradFest Summer School of Traditional Music is the hub around which Belfast TradFest is built. Young and old musicians come to Belfast to learn from the very best in the business, for a 5 day long programme of summer school events. This year’s line-up of tutors features no less than 8 previous TG4 Gradam Ceoil Award recipients and amongst the list of world class talent will be Tyrone’s Ryan Molloy, acclaimed composer and musician Neil Martin, Co. Kerry’s Niamh Ní Charra, banjo maestro Angelina Carberry, Sean Nós dancing dynamo Edwina Guckian & Belfast’s very own set dancing master Ronán Eastwood.

Also on the tutor line-up is American Irish legend of traditional music Joanie Madden, Scottish Smallpipe genius Fin Moore, Belfast’s own Desi Wilkinson, legendary County Antrim singer Len Graham and tenor banjo player Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor, Mayo harping legend Laoise Kelly, Monaghan uilleann piper Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, Sligo accordion wizard Daithí Gormley and traditional music masters Bríd harper, Mike McGoldrick, John Doyle and John McCusker, to name a few.

There will be a whole host of afternoon events including talks, workshops and demonstrations, one-to-one clinics, instrument taster sessions & more taking place in Ulster University from 1:30pm – 6pm.

Make sure you keep an eye out for McConnell’s Irish Whisky session Trail taking place at some of Belfast’s most iconic traditional pubs around the city centre from Sunday 23rd -Sunday 30th July. All sessions are free admission and last 2 hours.
