  • The Ivy House Irish Music Session

Our friendly group of musicians meet every Tuesday evening around 8.30pm in any one of the three bars of The Ivy House on Stuart Road, Nunhead, London SE15 3BE, to play mostly Irish traditional music on fiddles, flutes, pipes, accordions, etc.
All competent players are welcome to join us. We are a tolerant session so we also welcome earnest improvers and even the occasional (well-behaved & competent) guitarist & bodhránist, maxing out at one of each of these.

But not spoons or shaky eggs.

We have provided some of our repertoire on our Tune List - please refer to the page on the link address.

We will take bookings for events such as acoustic gigs and other sessions - please refer to the page on the link address.

The Ivy House, London’s first co-operatively owned pub, has become a pivotal part of the local community of Nunhead and the nearby areas of Peckham, East Dulwich, Honor Oak Park and Crofton Park.

You can find out more about the pub and its history here:

  • Skirdechal!

Skirdechal! is a traditional folk music group based in Angus which was established in 2009 with the aim of encouraging the talented young people of Angus to enjoy music the traditional way ~ playing by ear ~ learning from listening to each other ~ working together to create a sound brim full of the group’s energy & enthusiasm.
The group is made up of young people aged 10 to 18 from all over Angus. The line-up changes as the older members move on and new members join.
Along with the band members, Skirdechal’s repetoire changes over time - the best tunes being the ones you’ve yet to learn. The music varies from traditional fiddle & piping tunes to more modern tunes from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton, Brittany & Galicia.
Skirdechal has released a CD entitled "Folk On The Water" that can be downloaded from iTunes - all proceeds from CD sales will go towards supporting the group in the future.

  • Zahatar: Acoustic String Band’s “The Little Country”album on Kickstarter through July 4th!

We want to have the opportunity to record an album version of The Little Country song cycle, which began as single melody lines in the appendix of one of Charles de Lint’s urban fantasy novels from the early 90’s. These tunes had never before been arranged for string band in their entirety, until now. Zahatar recently held a sold-out performance of the song cycle, and recording an album is our next endeavor.

We love playing Celtic music, and The Little Country is a project that’s very near and dear to us. We want to share this experience with the world!

Please check out our Kickstarter page and consider a pledge - most reward tiers include either a digital copy of the album or a physical copy or both!
