There are some great suggestions here. Learning nowadays can be a multi-media event. There are tons of good tunes and videos on Youtube, and it has a slow-down function that really helps. You can slow a tune to half speed but it doesn’t change the pitch. more…

Whatever tempo you’re shooting for, I would suggest you start playing a tune slowly and bring it up a bit at a time. Basically, I won’t practice a tune any faster than I can play the hardest part cleanly. more…

Somebody up top made the point that a lot of these tunes are standards for a reason: they’re good tunes. I cycle through my repertoire, as I’m sure everybody does. It’s fun to come back to tunes I learned 25 years ago. more…
