Phil Heming

From Redditch many years ago, settled in North Devon over 30 years ago. Play whistles [solo instrument], have listened to folk music since the age of 14, but after 48 years of morris dancing, the knees gave out, so now concentrate on improving my instrumental skills by regular playing at least twice weekly at sessions throughout Devon and Somerset. I play a range of whistles in different keys, from Susato, Kerry Chieftain, Dixon and Overton. Each has its own characteristic sound and place in a session. My favourite is the distinctive tone of the Susato, but the breathiness of the Overton is very useful at times, but for the low D, it has to be the Chieftain.
After 33 years in Devon I moved to North Herefordshire in November 2017
