First and foremost I am a Christian. I was born, raised, and still live in NW Florida I am a direct descendant from Clan Donald of Scotland, with 5th and 6th g- grandfathers being Jacobites. I am 74 years old, and still learning how to play the penny whistle on a daily basis. I have learned that one cannot compare themselves with other whistle players for one simple fact: we will never be them. Be yourself and continue to learn, improve and use the talents which you alone have been given. Every day stretch yourself a little more and enjoy what you have learned this far, and look forward to what you will accomplish tomorrow and be content with that. Also learn not criticize the others who are (and play) differently from yourself.
Through the years I have owned and played Alba, Dixon, Susato, Reyburn, Clarke, Kerry, and Ethnic wind whistles. I have finally settled on a low D Kerry Optima, a Kerry Chieftain V5 low D, a Chieftain V5 F, a Reyburn E, a Freeman Bb, a Freeman C, and a Dixon Trad D. The reason that I have these is, they do what I want them to do, and far more, but they suit me, and they all have the capacity to be played a lot better than I can play them. However I am continually learning to be better and play better, and that brings me encouragement. I have have learned to be content with my lot in life, but I long to improve both in my relationship with God my Father, my family, and those around me. Blessings on you all, and keep playing!
