Andy Sharp

I’m a medical student and viola/fiddle player with about eleven years of classical violin playing under my belt, while self-teaching myself fiddle technique over the last three or four years. I’m particularly fond of the playing of Tom Callister, Frankie Gavin, Kevin Burke, Martin Hayes and Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh. I’d say I’m still at the stage now where my technical ability outstrips my repertoire and understanding of the tradition.

I’ve recently picked up a bouzouki and intend to learn in an Alec Finn or Mick Conneely sort of style (we’ll see how well that goes). I also own a tin whistle that I can’t play!

I’m based in Leicester primarily and attend the Duffy’s session semi-regularly.

My other interests include leatherworking, a bit of techy stuff and perhaps a little bit of work here and there.
