I love tunes best when they’re played slow enough to feel them, and the flute players whose ‘feel’ I enjoy most are Cathal McConnell, Michael McGoldrick and Jean Michel-Veillon (flute player of the Breton group Kornog), and the Bengali great, Hariprasad Chaurasia. I’ve played folk music since I was about 21 - but it felt like a ‘rediscovering’, since my Dad played pipes when I was a kid.
