I have played and sung in folk clubs since 1969. In 1995 the Kelso folk club was formed and I’ve been involved ever since, as chairman for the last ten years. We now have two Friday night venues which overlap - an early open mic (take it in turns, mainly songs) at the Black Swan from 7.30pm; and a late session, anything goes, mixed tunes and songs, at the Cobbles Inn from around 10pm. I go to both and so do many others, it’s a long night…
I play guitars of many different types, mandolin family, banjo, viola (badly), whistles, ethnic and historic instruments. I generally accompany rather than lead tunes, and prefer to play harmony second parts not the local style which is unison all the way. Tend towards airs, laments, strathspeys etc rather than fast jigs and reels.
