Jim Langley was raised in Abilene, Texas, and went to granduate school in Ames, Iowa (neither place a hotbed of Irish music). He moved to the Washington, DC, area in 1983, where he finally was exposed to Irish music, which eventually became a passion. He started playing hammered dulcimer at age 43 and the mandolin at age 47, and keeps threatening the family to get a tenor banjo. Being such a late bloomer, he has no pretence of ever wandering too far outside the neighborhood of mediocrity, but he has a lot of fun trying. His biggest thrill is passing his love of Irish music on to his now 14-year-old son, who has been playing Irish fiddle and teaching his dad tunes since age 9. Jim spends his nonpractice time as a Senior Budget Analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, U.S. Congress. Jim has been a lurker on this site for a long while, and appreciates all the helpful discussions. This is a fantastic source of information!
