I played guitar/vocals in a local Punk band in my teens and early twenties. Still love all that music. Was exposed to trad when I was a kid through festivals and family records of Boys of the Lough, Chieftains, Bothy Band, Altan, etc. and it was always in the back of my mind. As the band wound down, I picked up my Dad’s old mandolin, listened bunches and hunted recordings. One day I bought a fiddle from my old bassist for $30, took lessons (definitely not Punk rock), studied abroad in Ireland and Spain and now I’m in a group called Plaid Clash…wild world. Apart from session favs, I love the music of Donegal and Scots/Cape Breton Island madness as well.
