Beginning banjo player (19-fret tenor strung as plectrum - CGBD). First lesson (and they will be few and far between) from Cynthia Sayer Friday July 5, 2013. I want to learn something about all the instruments I love and so far I have: piano, accordion, electric bass, lap steel guitar, penny whistle. Only one I’m missing is the bagpipes! (I have occasional yearnings for the fiddle and once upon a time — very long ago I learned to play "On the Trail of the Lonesome Pine" on my college roommate’s viola!) I am old and teach part-time at the Community College of Vermont, design the occasional web site for artists, and exhibit my black and white photographs of Vermont.)
Learning an instrument is, for me, a form of meditation. The sound and the concentrated thinking erases all the world for that time.
I signed up here after reading ALL of the thoughtful posts about tenor banjo fingering and look forward to long browsing sessions. Glad to be here. Thank you.
