Anne McWilliams

tunebook 1 tune.

Native of Athens, Alabama, live now in Indianapolis, Indiana. Play guitar (by ear, self-taught, lots of music background) folk, bluegrass, learning Irish trad now. Learning mandolin, too, aided by learning old time fiddle during a couple of years in Kentucky. Lived also Nashville, TN, Chattanooga, TN, Hattiesburg, MS, Jackson, MS, Dayton, OH, now Indianapolis, IN. In college, 1979, I bought the Bill Monroe Bean Blossom Festival (1968) vinyl, picked out a lot of tunes. Kind of weird to live near there now, 34 years later. Spent August 2013 (just a month ago, as I write this) in the Gaeltacht areas of western Ireland, at sessions in the pubs, and performances in some churches. Became enchanted in Dublin, Kilkenny (Kitner’s), Kenmare, Dingle, Doolin, Galway, Trim, back to Dublin. Came home determined to find our Indiana sessions, and came home to our Irish Fest. Tomorrow night, it’s hurling, cammogie, Gaelic football exhibitions (I’ll be cheering). I’m investigating luthierie school tomorrow at the Indiana University Violin Shop.
Good to be here in the online session.
