I got into contradancing back in the early ’70’s, and started playing dance tunes on guitar (flat-picking). Switched to fiddle for something a little more portable. In the summer of 2009, I switched to viola.

I’m a very new fiddle/violin player (viddle?) who likes Irish, contra dance and southern Appalachian music.

My name is Ryan and I play fiddle, pennywhistle, and mandolin for Irish music but I’m also a classically-trained cellist, composer and early-music performer (viola da gamba). I’m from Nederland, CO but I currently live in Seattle, WA.

I’m a primarily self-taught fiddle player who started when I turned 30. I’ve got a few tunes under my belt.

Guitar and bass. Just starting concertina and mandolin. Would love to try bouzouki. Married to a beginning fiddler.

I was raised in Wisconsin, Panama, California and Oregon and have lived in Seattle since 1974. I retired from the U of Wa grad school in 2014, and as a young man worked in Seattle shipyards as a steel fabricator.
