Foinn Seisiun 1 CD
This double CD contains 116 well known traditional session tunes (jigs, reels, polkas, slides, hornpipes, etc) arranged in sets. All the tunes have already been published in Foinn Seisiún Book 1. Combined with the book it’s a great aid for learning the music.
Foinn Seisiun CD is not available in music stores but can be obtained from Comhaltas in Dublin - see http://www.comhaltas.com/seisiun/foinnCD.htm for details.
Tempo on Foinn Seisiún CD
In your (collective) experience, are the tempos of the recorded songs on the Foinn Seisiún CD about where you play these songs?
This CD is actually quite well done, btw.
Thanks,
Keyton
Availability of Foinn Seisiun CDs
These recordings are now available from Four Corners Record Store, Shop street, Galway and Noel McQuaid Music Shop, Nenagh.
Available on iTunes
Just downloaded this CD off iTunes. You can buy each tune individually for 99¢ each - or all 120 or so of them for $10. Hurry now if you want to buy this collection, before the folks at iTunes get better at the math.
But beware: they’re broken up into individual tunes, not as sets like on the original CD (or so I assume, not being an owner of the original) and the transitions between the broken apart sets are very abrupt. But for me, this is a CD for learning more than pleasure, so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Nicely done collection of core tunes.
Re: Available on iTunes
I bought my copy off iTunes - just make sure when you decide to burn a copy to disc that you set it up to burn with NO SECONDS between tracks - it will run smoothly then.
What a deal!
10 bucks off Itunes! (Excuse me, $9.99….) Instant gratification! Thanks for the heads-up, fidkid.
Why buy them from iTunes when you can get them for free off the Comhaltas website?
Link error
The link to Dennis Murphy’s Slide actually links to Dennis Murphy’s Polka.
Another link error
Also, the Foxhunter’s Reel links to the Foxhunter’s Jig
I keep finding myself here and then having to search for this link: http://comhaltas.ie/shop/detail/foinn_seisiun_cd_volume_1/ which has mp3 of all the tracks.
Fixed some links
I fixed three links that went to tunes that didn’t correspond with what’s on the CD: Ballydesmond #3,
Denis Murphy’s Slide and Foxhunters Reel.
Leitrum Fancy
Track 35 (Track 98 on iTunes) appears to be Leitrium Fancy:

Re: Foinn Seisiun 1
Just went through this for the first time as we wanted to set up a set list for a gig we’ve been asked to play. Very helpful. Also, puts names to some tunes I’ve never known the names of but have played for a long time. Maybe you need to do a Matrix scenario, when they get Neo to be able to do Kung Fu, by plugging a computer into the back of his neck. “Do you know any tune sets?” (brrrr, bleeep, chunk) “I do now!”
