Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann - CBÉ 002
This is a double cassette set and the second or a cassette series released by ‘Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann’, the first being "The Bunch of Keys, CBÉ 002. The following is from the notes:
“Mickey Doherty, the traveling fiddle player and storyteller, was one of the great masters of the traditional music of Donegal. This release presents a comprehensive selection from the unique early recordings of his playing made by the Irish Folklore Commission. 28 tracks, containing dance tunes, airs and storytelling (and dancing), are here newly remastered from the originals.”
“The Bunch of Keys: The Complete Recordings of Johnny Doherty”
This is a single cassette not ‘re-mastered’, raw, the first release by ‘Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann’, CBÉ 001:

Re: The Gravel Walks: The Fiddle Music Of Mickey Doherty
I used to have the double cassette version but lost it in a house move - does anyone know if it’s still available anywhere?
Re: The Gravel Walks: The Fiddle Music Of Mickey Doherty
I’ve amended this to remove the suggestion that ‘Brepsant’ was a separate tune.. Engebert Brepsant was actually the composer of the march ‘Belphegor’.

Thanks, much appreciated. I had meant to return here and update some things still not listed specifically, like for track 9, which I still hope to deal with, eventually. 😏

I’m going to echo Rhod’s question: is there anywhere you can still get this? And is it only available on cassette?
Re: The Gravel Walks: The Fiddle Music Of Mickey Doherty
Hi Daniel - I had an email of new releases from Claddagh in Dublin last week, and they had a new release CD of recordings by Mickey Doherty titled “Garvan Hill” - 20 euros. May be of interest to you. Can’t help with the others, I’m afraid.
Re: The Gravel Walks: The Fiddle Music Of Mickey Doherty
Thanks Kenny, will check it out. Would still love this one also; just searched Amazon for it to be certain it wasn’t there.
Re: The Gravel Walks: The Fiddle Music Of Mickey Doherty
Also for anyone who has this tape, what is Mickey’s version of “Dúlamán Na Binne Buí” like? Is it the same version as on John Doherty’s “The Floating Bow”? Or is it yet another of the myriad highlands that seem to go by this name?
