Six comments

This album accompanies a book by the same name written by Pat Mitchell and Jackie Small detailing the life and music of Patsy Touhey.

"A Drink Of Water" is usually called Give Us A Drink of Water. Halligan’s Fancy is Touhey’s title for the Fisherman’s Lilt. Munster Gimlet is Will You Come Down to Limerick.
The greatest piper of his day, Touhey died in 1923.

A handful of tunes on this compilation (and the extended 36 track version available through NPU) are very good with some mighty fine piping, but the tracks that are remastered from his old home recorded wax cylinders are all but inaudiable. And I’m not one to be picky about such things, but some of them are really terrible.

The piping is as good as ever, but the quality of the recordings really aren’t worth the money, even keeping in mind that they are pieces of piping history.

can someone tell me or give me a link to where i can find this recording please!!!!!!!!!

"The Piping of Patsy Touhey" - Na Píobairí Uilleann, 1986 - Cassette 001

"The historic recordings of the legendary Irish-American piper Patsy Touhey comprise one of the greatest riches of Irish traditional music. This cassette presents a new remastering of a selection of the best of these recordings and accompanies "The Piping of Patsy Touhey", a full account of his life and music, by Pat Mitchell and Jackie Small."
