The Fiddler and his Art

Tracks 1 to 4 are of Donald MacDonnell a West Highland Fiddler
Track 5 is of Hugh Inkster, an Orcadian
Tracks 6 & 7 are of Pat Shearer, another Orcadian
Tracks 8 & 9 are of John Reid
Track 9 is of Andrew Poleson of Shetland
Track 10 is of Albert Stewart of Perthshire
Tracks 11 to 14 are of the ‘Daddy of them all’, the one & only Hector MacAndrew.

In my opinion, this recording is worth getting, even for Hector’s playing alone - the other tracks are simply a bonus!

Andrew Poleson

Having already gotten the recording of Shetland fiddle from the School of Scottish Studies, when I heard track 9 of this recording I noticed a remarkable resemblance to Poleson’s playing and thought it must be him. Not surprised to learn here that I was right. I love the tunes he plays here, pity he doesn’t put them in a set. I also love Hugh Inkster’s playing of the “Renfrewshire Militia” as well as Donald MacDonald’s stuff, particularly on track 3.
