Le Sean O Se agus Ceoltoiri Cualann

CEF 027 - 33 1/3 - Ceol Tire - Classed as Folk - Irish Traditional

Recorded in 1970, this group is of course the predecessor to the Chieftains, so is important.

Na Ceoltoiri:
Sean O Riada, Sean O Se, Mairtin Fay, Sean O Ceallaigh, Sean O Cathain, Paddy Moloney, Sean Potts, Micheal O Toibride, Eamon de Buitlear, Peadar Mercier & Sean O Riada.

This is a live recording of the O Doirnin bi-centenary concert which was to honour one of the nation’s poets.

Any fan of the Chieftains work would surely enjoy listening to this recording.

Must say I love the sound of the Harpsichord on this.

Is this one of those influential albums like the early michael coleman, the bothy band’s first or the black planxty album?

Well, I suppose it might be classed as such by out & out Chieftains fans, but NOT if you are not a fan of ye olde Orchestrated Trad!

Anyway, a lot of the stuff on this LP appeared again, if I am not very much mistaken, on early Chieftain’s albums.

influential album…especially tracks like marcshlua ui neill, which horslips used for dearg doom, marbhna luimnigh, moving slow air, beautifully timed, whinny hiills of leitrim, with use of counter melodies and fascinating bodhran ril mor bhaile an calaidh, which showcases the different ceoltoiri and ends with them all humourously singing part of the tune. marvellous. recorded in 1969.
