This was the first record released by the "Plant Life" label - catalogue number is PLR 001 - in 1976, and the first of 17 albums the "Tannahill Weavers" have recorded since.

Band line-up on this recording was :

Roy Gullane - vocals, guitar and tenor-banjo.
Dougie MacLean - fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and vocals
Hudson Swan - bouzouki, mandolin, glockenspiel [ !! ], vocals
Phil Smillie - flute, whistles, bodhran, vocals

In the absence of Highland pipes, which appeared on their second, and all subsequent recordings, the focus here is on songs rather than tune sets. It’s an album which stands the test of time, and still sounds pretty good to me , coming up for 40 years since it was released.
I was with Dougie MacLean the weekend at the Kinross traditional music festival when he was asked to join the band. He was fairly shell-shocked about it at the time, but took the plunge, and the rest, as they say, is history. All 4 are still playing traditional music today, and fair play to them,, one and all !

Great album

Hi Kenny
Couldn’t agree with you more, this is a fantastic album which I recently re-discovered. There are some great tunes recorded by the Tannahill Weavers on this and other albums, many of which aren’t posted here. I have just posted the ‘Galley of Lorne’ from this recording (my first ever tune post) but I’m not if it will link to here. Hope it’s turned out ok anyway. Regards
Sebastian
