Martin was born in the village of Ballygoughin in west Limerick 1929. He learned the fiddle from his mother and from neighboring musicians in the townland. He emigrated to England in the 1950's and lived in Northampton for several years before moving to New York with his family in the mid 1960's. He now runs one of the largest and most successful schools of Irish music in America. Mick Moloney

Mick Moloney is a traditional Irish musician and scholar. Born in County Limerick, he was an important figure on the Dublin folk-song revival in the 1960s. In 1973, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He gained early fame as a member of Irish group The Johnstons and The Emmet Spiceland but has since performed and recorded with a variety of groups and individuals, including Eugene O'Donnell and Séamus Egan; he also worked closely with The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. Is this an old recording or just hot off the press?

This was an early Green Linnet lp from around ‘78 or so. I don’t know if it’s available in any format today.

This is an incredible album - pure West Limerick style fiddling at its best. Very strongly recommended to those who appreciate the old-style fiddling from this region. It’s only available on LP and cassette, I believe, so snap it up if you ever come across it…
