“Jimmy Shand: The Bluebell Polka”

PDSCD 671 ~ Castle Pulse
2 CDs, CD1 = tracks 1 - 19 / CD2 = tracks 20 - 38 (1-19)

It’s Jimmy Shand and 38 tracks of him for under a fiver, at least that’s what I got it for… 🙂

“Jimmy Shand: The Bluebell Polka” ~ the liner

"JIMMY Shand ~ recorded more tracks than the Beatles and Elvis Presley combined in a career that extended from his teens to the late 20th century. His instrument was the button accordion, and he began recording with it in 1933, when in his mid twenties. His first broadcast on BBC radio came in 1945, and from then until the late 1980s Shand was one of the hardest working musicians in show business.

He only scored one hit single - 1955’s ‘The Bluebell Polka’, produced by George Martin and our opening track - but amazingly once appeared on Top of the Pops, in 1962. ~

Jimmy Shand was knighted in 1988, shortly before his passing aged 92. A larger than life-sized sculpture of the man was erected in his adopted home town of Auchtermuchty in 2003 ~ the King of the Ceilidhs ~ "
