Wonderful. I remember buying this CD at the end of a really bad day, both on a professional and personal level. I must have played it five times through. Aly and Phil got me out my funk. Highly recommended.

Track 3 ~ “Waltz Of The Little Girls” ~ where they beat it to death as a 64 bar tune…

Somehow this strikes me as the B movie equivalent of this music, just too smarmy, like putting 6 or more spoonfuls of sugar into a small cup of tea. I know, audiences crave that kind of overdone smarm, and they pay money for it. But, whatever talent is here, it is just so sweet my teeth ache, and this poor tune is murdered. Sometimes a tune has it all and doesn’t need those extra spoonfuls of sugar. IMO

But, if it gets someone out of a funk, bless ’em…

While my wife has no patience for such things, I must admit that I do enjoy the occasional B flick and have also been known to lay it on a bit thick, smarm (probably a misuse of the term by its sound - as I’m meaning a serious and excessive level of schmaltz) and schlick schlock, for the craic, rarely with serious intent, finding it difficult to keep a straight face in most cases… 😏

I do know I’m likely in the minority here - but it does make my teeth ache, like one of those awful multi-layered wedding cakes draped with sugar decorations and inch thick royal icing. Just the cake for me, please, and, if I must, just a very small bit of the icing…

Language misuse ~ 😏 ~ and how my curiously wired brain works.

‘S’-weet ‘Marm’-alade ~ something appreciated some mornings lightly accompanying that bare bones joy toast. It’s mostly processed sugar with very little fruit or nutritional value. Sometimes what one really wants is just a nice piece of toast with a little butter or marg, with that unadulterated earthy taste of grain to the front, with crunch…

Now to poetry and good writing, IMHO. I prefer to be allowed to form my own emotions from a read (or listen), rather than emotion being imposed on me, as is the case with B-movies and overly sentimental poetry. Some tunes are in their very nature emotional and don’t need any marmalade…

Yeah, I know ~ crazy! 😉
