The Spirit Of West Clare

Finally available: a CD of the playing of Bobby Casey, one of the true legends of the tradition. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s well worth the wait.

It consists of recordings made in 1966-67 by Bill Leader and Reg Hall.

I’ve been listening to this CD over the last week - it’s just dazzling playing. Hugely inventive, of course, but it’s music with real heart, and that has a strong sense of place.

Maybe you could correct a couple of things in the contents. The last four tunes in track 8 must have been mis-formatted somehow. And it looks like Eileen Curran is misspelled as Curren both on the liner notes and here.

The track listing posted on Session.org lists the second tune on track 4 as “The Last House In Connaught”. This is incorrect. He actually plays “My Love Is in America” - as the CD sleeve indicates correctly.
