This album was released back in 1968 by Gael Linn (CEF 018) and why it’s never seen the light of day in CD format is beyond me.
The record highlights the music and song of County Clare and was supposed to be the start of a series of recordings, called ‘Seoda Cheoil’ which would ‘be published by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, in cooperation with Gael Linn, twice yearly over the next four years.’ Only one further album in said series was ever released - CEF 022, featuring Séamus Ennis, Joe Heaney, Seán Keane and John Joe Gannon.
The first four and last four tracks are by Willie Clancy. Seán Ó Conaire, from Rosmuc in Connemara, sings tracks five and ten. The intervening nine tracks are by John Kelly, the first three on concertina and the remainder on the fiddle.
Correction - Seán sings tracks five and fifteen.
The Gael Linn label has finally reissued this album as part of a double-CD collection, with ‘Seoda Ceoil 2’, commemorating said label’s 60th anniversary.
