Fourmilehouse

Brothers Alan (accordion) and John (flute) make the sort of noise that gets this trad fan very excited. They’re joined by a rake of talent … Arty McGlynn, Rod McVey, Jim Higgins, Cyril O’Donoghue, Brian McGrath and John Maloney. Superb!

John Kelly is terrific

Not to miss brother alan…
But this is some of the cleanest, nicest flute playing you’ll ever hear.
His beautifully done version of the Reel to Rio is fab!

duh!
i meant Bush in Bloom!

I agree, but don’t forget Alan and Brian McGrath’s box/banjo duet on track 11.

mighty stuff

The Living Tradition - review of “Fourmilehouse”

http://www.folkmusic.net/htmfiles/webrevs/bbm2003.htm

"Alan Kelly is a fast-fingered phenomenon from Roscommon with two excellent solo recordings to his name. Here he’s joined by ~ brother John on flutes and whistles ~ one of my favourite hornpipes, The Mountain Ranger. Here as elsewhere, Alan and John take turn about to start a set, giving a varied and relaxed feel to the whole album. ~
Great tunes, mighty players, good craic, and plenty of it: let’s hope there’s more where this came from."

Slow air, “Parting Glass”, track 6

This is a beautiful rendition of this tune as a slow air. Can anyone fill me in the details of it? It doesn’t resemble “The Parting Glass” on this web site or the jig version that I’m familiar with. I bought the album off of emusic, so I don’t have the liner notes. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sonny Brogan’s

The first tune in the last set (Sonny Brogan’s) is actually “The Road to Lisdoonvarna”

Sonny Brogan’s and Hag’s Purse

Substituted “The Road to Lisdoonvarna” for “Sonny Brogan’s” as per Niall’s post, and substituted “Martin Hardiman’s” for “The Hag’s Purse” to disambiguate between tunes by the same name. 🙂

Re: Fourmilehouse

The second tune of the first set on this wonderful album pointed to Quill’s jig. I’ve updated it to point to the right reel (Quille’s)

Re: Fourmilehouse

Track 11 - Old Joe’s - not “John’s”. Have updated link
