Old timers, but sooo good !

A nice compilation of old 78 rpm recordings from 1907 to 1935, with :
on Harmonica : Donald Davidson, William Kemp, James Andrews and the Aberdeen “Silver City Harmonica Band”,
on Concertina (english…): Georges Smith Harris,
on Melodeon : Alec Bisset, William Powrie, William Hannah, Peter Wyper, Jimmy shand (one of his first recordings…), Daniel Wyper, Georges “Pamby” Dick

Issued by Ythan Music Trust, Vintage Recordings, YCD03

Mostly Scottish… but these vintage remastering are great ! Topic issued in 1978 a vinyl called “Melodeon greats”, with remastered recordings of the beginning of the 20th century : the interpretation hasn’t aged a bit… seems that people like the wyper brothers played 2 row button box, C/C# (that can bring another discussion on the merits of different tunings….B/C, C/C#,C#/D, D/D#….)
the LP is Topic 12T376… but i dunno if it’s been reissued on CD…

Sigh ~ we can but hope that eventually the Topic catalogue, and RTE’s and the BBC’s archive recordings will eventually find air again to inspire us all…
