Issued in 2009 as part of the Topic label’s 70th anniversary, ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ (TSCD 583) comprises recordings of the Belfast family made in 1962 by Bill Leader. These were originally issued as an LP (‘Irish Traditional Songs’) followed by an EP (‘Jug of Punch’).
The album comes in a splendid gatefold sleeve, includes some excellent photographs and all the notes from the original releases.
As far as I’m aware this is the first ever CD issue of an album by the McPeakes which is quite astonishing when one considers just how popular the group was in the 1960s.
The group doesn’t even have a Wikipedia entry, but there are some snippets of information around on the Net.
If I remember well, The Return from Fingal https://thesession.org/tunes/851 is played as part of one of the tracks: Was it number 8?
