Debut CD From Western Massachusetts Trio

From ..

BlackSheep is one of Western Massachusetts’ more eclectic trad bands, specializing in Irish traditional music, songs, the occasional rock ‘n roll cover, or whatever else comes our way. Made up of professional performers trained in classical, jazz and pop styles, the group came together in the summer of 2008, drawn by their love of Irish/Celtic traditional music. Their debut CD, The Gooseberry Bush, was released in May of 2011.

Ellen Redman (flute, whistle, vocals) is a classically trained flutist who began playing Irish flute in 2004. Also a member of the Springfield Symphony, she qualified and competed in two All-Ireland music championships and performs traditional (and classical) music with well-known musicians throughout the region. Jerry Noble, (guitar, vocals) is a much sought-after performer in Western Massachusetts and is recognized as a composer and pianist known for his versatility and accomplishment in nearly every musical style imaginable. Kevin Fontaine (tenor banjo) began studying the guitar at age 8 and began playing the tenor banjo after a family trip to Ireland. With his vast knowledge of tunes and strong traditional style he is regarded as one of the premiere banjo players of Irish music in the area.
