Great recording

Davy Spillane on pipes and low whistle, Kevin Glackin fiddling, traditional music, pure and simple. Simply incredible.

“Restored My Faith”

I lent this CD to Deb Quigley, arguably Toronto’s finest piper. She’s told me about a dozen times that this CD “restored my faith in traditional music”.

It’s so unadorned, you can only imagine the telephone conversation: “Kevin, Davy here--d’you want to record a CD this afternoon?” “Sure…put the tea on. I’ll be right over.” An hour and a half and one pot of tea later, it’s ready for pressing.

Or at least, that’s what it SOUNDS like!

“The Trip Over The Mountain” is a complete hoot; I’ve never heard music that so much reminded me of walking home drunk. “The Green Fields of America” (which is actually the jig version usually known as “The Maid in the Meadow”) paired with “The Geese in the Bog” is another favourite hereabouts.

Erratum

Yeah, this is a great recording. Just classic tunes without any accompaniment, but very thrilling. I just point out some mistakes in the track list.

Track 4: Farewell to Connaught/ Cornie is Coming/ The Abbey Reel

Track 5: Lucy Campbell/ Trim the Velvet/ Jenny’s Wedding

Forgotten Days

Great CD but the fiddle is hardly audible in many of the early tracks
