Just released in 2011, the Old Bay Ceili Band consists of members in the Baltimore & Washington D.C. area. The band is: Jim Eagan & Danny Noveck (fiddles), Brendan Bell & Laura Byrne (flutes); Sean McComiskey (accordion), Bob Smith (banjo), Matt Mulqueen (piano), and Josh Dukes (drum & bouzouki). The band competed in the senior ceili band competition at the Fleadh Cheoil in 2008 & 2009 and now perform at festivals and dances across the US.
The CD consists of full band arrangements as well as a few more intimate tracks with duos/trios/etc. Tracks 8-13 can be used for the Dublin Set. Also worth noting that as listed in the details, “The Homecoming” is composed by Matt Mulqueen (different than what the tune links to on this site), “The Bluemont” is a waltz composed by Rodney Miller, and “Poor Timing” is composed by Billy McComiskey.
The CD is available from http://www.oldbayceiliband.com, http://www.cdbaby.com, and probably a few other places as well. Putting my natural bias aside (see my bio), this is a solid CD that represents the band and the Baltimore/DC ITM scene extremely well, so it’s certainly worth adding to the collection.
Few more clarifications
Only tracks 8-11 are for the Dublin Set. Also, the Quinn’s played on track 9 is this: http://tunepal.org/tunepal/show_tune.php?tunepalid=171447-cre2.abc-5-Quinn%7Es (doesn’t appear to be on this site).
