Clare Tradition Compilation

A CD credited to GTD Productions in 1993 “featuring Co.Clare’s foremost traditional musicians”. These were probably taken from various older vinyl recordings, as usual the track descriptions have obvious errors and is incomplete in places. I’ve inserted an extra tune title here & there and will see if I can identify the Gan Ainms in due course. Some notes.

Caher Jig/Killoughery Jig/Behind The Haystack - Tulla Céili Band
The Drunken Tinker/The Convenience Reel - Eugene Lambe (whistle)
The Calm Sea/O’Mahoney’s - Seamus Walsh (box)
Banchnoic Eireann O/Trip to Durrow - Tommy Peoples (fiddle), air & reel
Billy Brocker’s/Gan Ainm - Michael and Seamus Hynes (flute)
Sé Fath mo Bhuartha - Eugene Lambe (pipes)
The New Policeman/London Lassies - Sean Conway (whistle)
Dr.Neill’s/Kit O’Mahony’s/Molly’s Favourite - St.Fachnan’s Céili Band
Gan Ainm/Gan Ainm - Chris Droney (concertina), reels
Kate Moloney/Lisdoonvarna Polka - Micho Russell (whistle)
The Windy Gap/The Tempest - P.J.Hayes (fiddle)
Sean Ryan’s/The Friendly Visit - The Four Courts Céili Band
Quinn’s Bush/Journey By Train - Gus Tierney (fiddle)
St.Anne’s/Boys of Ballisodare/The Dawn/Crosses of Annagh - Heritage Céili Band

The Tommy Peoples and PJ Hayes tracks in particular stand out.

A slight correction, tafkath,

GTD was at first a cassette-only label which started in around the very late 1970s or early 1980s (for instance, the Tommy Peoples track dates from 1982). As far as I’m aware, it never issued any vinyl.

Over the last few years the label has started reissuing an increasing number of items from its back catalogue in CD format (the trickle started very gradually in the early 1990s).

‘Clare Tradition’ is still available.

Whoops,

I meant to add that the label specializes in music and song from counties Clare, Galway and Limerick.
