"Joe Hutton (Smallpipes), Will Atkinson (Mouthorgan) and Willie Taylor (fiddle) all worked as shepherds in Northumberland. They all knew each other over many years and had family connections: Will and Willie were first cousins and Joe’s wife’s mother’s cousin was their aunt Nan Armstrong. Their performances and early recordings inspired a whole generation of musicians in the North East of England.
In retirement they joined together and became known as The Shepherds and during the late 1980s and early 1990s they gained a following outside their native homeland. Led initially by concertina player Alistair Anderson they travelled all over England playing at concerts, clubs and festivals
Only a handful of recordings of them are now available on compilation CDs, so this whole new album of ‘live’ performances will be a welcome addition to any CD collection of English
traditional music."

These lads are all time favourites of mine and I am so glad to see another recording available and dedicated to them. I have no reservations in recommending this, music with roots & no B.S., a joy…
