”Inspired by Damien Connolly is a tour de force of an album. It shines with an energy and hunger that sets it apart from many other releases. On first listen, the mix of instruments and harmonies gives quite a full sound, but it quickly finds its stride and tempo. The inclusion of Oisin Mac Diarmada and Sean Earnest push it to a level that a solo excursion may not have reached. Two tracks featuring Oisin and Sean are outstanding. Savage Paddy/Miss McGuinness, which we include, captures the energy of the recording. The power and precision of the accordion tracks, in particular the title track Inspired featuring Brendan Dolan, is a delight. Tell Me Now featuring John Doyle for all its mellow leanings is forthright and solid in its presentation. A host of other big names join in to create an album that can’t but lift the spirits. A highlight of the year so far.”
This is one of the best recordings of Irish music I’ve ever heard, and not very much of it traditional, as far as I can tell. I bought it as a "Download" through "iTunes", so of course, there are no sleeve notes. Could someone post here the origins of the tunes which are not in the database above, please ? I’m sure there are one or two I recognise from elsewhere, but have no names for. I assume some of the tunes are original compositions by Damien himself, and if so, he should be given credit for it.
Many thanks, Kenny.
Re: Inspired - credits
From the liner notes:
“All tunes composed by Damien Connolly except for ‘Remember Luna’ (comp. Colm Regan), ‘Nora Criona’ (trad.), ‘Paddy Go Backwards’ (Karl Connolly), ‘The Victor’s Return’ (trad.), The Blessings of Silver (comp. Ed Reavy), Miss McGuinness (trad.) and Sweeney’s Dream’ (comp. John McGrath).”
(sorry, I lost a few apostrophes along the way there…)
Many thanks, "Dargai" - much appreciated.
