Hailing from South Buffalo, the heart of the Western New York Irish Community, Crikwater formed in late summer 2010 to celebrate their Irish roots and collective love for Irish and Celtic Traditional music. Crikwater performs a variety of pub songs, ballads, sea shanties, rebel songs, and other traditional songs. In addition, the band includes a number of traditional tunes (jigs, reels, etc.). Although primarily focused on folk music from the Irish and Celtic traditions, Crikwater also incorporates songs from other traditions and genres, such as Rock, Classical, American and Canadian folk, and Eastern European traditional. They have an energetic roots folk sound with an edge that’s sure to get your feet stomping!
"Crikwater’s debut CD, Don’t Stop ‘til the Ship Goes Down, delivers exactly what Buffalo has come to expect from…this self-described ‘energetic roots folk with an edge’… finger picking guitar peppered with harmonica twang, mandolin melodies that tug at the heartstrings, banjo that brings the listener down to the old homestead, tin whistle that will get the most timid toes tapping and vocals that invite listeners to sing along…and a few new gems that may tempt the listener who otherwise thinks his or her Irish canon is already full."

"Crikwater takes Buffalo by Storm : Crikwater was formed because they saw a need for young musicians in Buffalo to play traditional folk music…to be sure that style of music is carried on for generations to come…The boys from South Buffalo … are thrilled with the response they’ve gotten throughout the Western New York community."
- Erin Collins, The Buffalo Irish Times (Feb 01, 2012)
"Crikwater plays a variety of traditional Irish songs…The songs are important, Caulfield said, because they provide a sense of where the Irish people have been. ‘It’s living history…It’s one way to tell the story of the Irish people.’ "
