"Mostly Melodeon is mighty music" — Sean Laffey, Irish Music Magazine, Dublin

"The album is a gem, especially for those of us enamored of melodeon music" — Jack Baker, Irish American News, Chicago

This compilation CD contains selected tracks of Irish traditional music from Dan’s previous albums, and as the title implies, the one-row melodeon is featured on most tracks. Dan’s music has been described by reviewers in Ireland, the UK and the USA as being ‘well arranged,” "warmly played," and "simply gloriously grounded traditional music." Dan is joined by some of today’s top players in traditional Irish Music.

Two Reels: Boogie and Controversial

Re: Mostly Melodeon

Track 13 - first tune listed on album as ‘Kenny’s Favourite’ has no connection to the tune of that name on this site.
It’s the tune I know (and a favourite) as ‘Free and Easy Reel’ , Spindle Shanks, or listed as ‘Mulqueen’s’ here. (now re-linked)

Re: Mostly Melodeon

Graham, you are quite right about the proper names for this tune. I was unaware of another Kenny’s Favourite when I called it that on my CD, but the track notes included with the album list all three tunes that you mention as more proper titles. The Kenny in question is Kenny Karabelnikoff, a fine trad guitar player in Anchorage, Alaska. I lived there for many years and he always insisted I play the tune at our local session.

All the best from Maine,

Hi Dan - sorry if it’s me who’s caused confusion here. I still don’t have a name for the 4-part reel I heard the Collis brothers play in Lorient in 1983, although Orla McAuliffe seems to have come up with a minor-key version of it, composed by Joe Liddy, apparently. In accordance with the Irish tradition, I think I’ll re-name it "Collis’s" reel, as they were my source for it.
I’m a big fan of your playing, and recordings. Best wishes, Kenny. [ at "thesession.org", - and everywhere else ! ]
