"Having played in Jimmy Shand’s Band for a time, Jim Johnstone has been fortunate to gain an insight into a great amount of Jimmy’s compositions, and to realise that his tunes - although very attractive to listen to - are excellent for dancing, for which purpose Jimmy no doubt composed them.
This album contains sixteen varied Scottish and Old Tyme Dances made up from thirty of Jimmy Shand’s compositions and Jim Johnstone and his Band have done a great justice to Jimmy’s very fine music."

I’m making a few additions here in the recordings section of the site in preparation for launching into another ‘composer’s week’, a time to add a few of Jimmy Shand’s works to this site, hoping a few others will also contribute… Of late I’d been listening to a number of very early Jimmy Shand recordings, including tracks where it’s just him and no one else, no other accompaniment…
