Re: If There Weren’t Any Women In The World

Bought a few weeks ago at the Willie Clancy week, here’s an interesting historical collection of recordings from those splendid folks at "Oldtime Records".

"Irish women have been creating traditional Irish music recordings since 1918. With very few exceptions, female musicians who recorded in the golden age of the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s have languished in obscurity. This CD seeks to bring to light the talent of these women : whether performing solo, as band members where their contributions are clearly audible, or, in the case of the McNiff-Lockes, as a female duet on banjo and accordion - some 50 years before all-women Irish traditional groups became popular".

I’ll post a list of the players later, maybe with a few comments - just got back from "down-under", and haven’t had a chance to listen to it all yet.
