Re: Recorded at Fiddler’s Hearth
My copy arrived this morning. This is up there with the very best of his recordings. Powerful, confident playing with all his usual emotion and inventiveness. Essential listening.
Re: Recorded at Fiddler’s Hearth
The second tune on track 15 is listed as Gillian’s Apples on the CD, but it’s the tune usually known as Bunker Hill, so I’ve edited the listing here so that it links to the correct tune. I don’t know whether Gillian’s Apples really is another name for this tune - I’ve only heard that name used for a jig, a different tune entirely.
Re: Recorded at Fiddler’s Hearth
This is the best album I’ve heard by Tommy Peoples. Unhurried tempos, with whistle-player-like spaces and pauses, beautifully clear intervallic leaps, and a judicious, measured rationing of his trademark scrunches. Zen achieved!
